How to use Extract Images from HWP

  1. 1Drop the .hwp or .hwpx file on the page or click Choose a file.
  2. 2Every picture stored in the document appears in a grid with its type, pixel size and file size. Tap a thumbnail to see it larger.
  3. 3Click Download under a picture to save just that one, or Download all as ZIP to save them all at once.
  4. 4Files are named after the document, for example report-image-01.jpg, report-image-02.png, in the order they are stored in the file.

Original files, not screenshots

An HWP document keeps each inserted picture as a separate file inside it: in the BinData storage of a .hwp file, or the BinData folder of a .hwpx package. This tool reads those files directly and saves them byte for byte, so a 3000 × 2000 photo comes out at 3000 × 2000 even if it was shrunk to a thumbnail on the page. Cropping, borders and resizing applied in Hancom Office are not baked in; you get the picture as it was inserted.

Pictures keep their real format (JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and sometimes EMF, WMF or TIFF). The file type is detected from the picture data itself, not from the name stored in the document, so the extension is always right.

Duplicates and what does not count as a picture

Documents built from templates often store the same logo or background several times. Identical copies are hidden by default and can be shown with one switch. Tables, text boxes, lines and shapes drawn in Hancom Office are part of the page layout rather than picture files, so they are not listed. If you need those as an image, open the document in the HWP Viewer or save the pages with HWP to PDF.

Private: nothing is uploaded

Everything happens in your browser. The document is not uploaded, and the ZIP file is built on your device. Password-protected HWP files ask for the password; in that case the pictures are collected from the unlocked pages using the rhwp engine.

Limits

  • EMF and WMF pictures (Windows vector drawings) and TIFF files are saved as they are. Windows, Microsoft Office and LibreOffice open them, but browsers cannot preview them.
  • Charts and other embedded OLE objects are not pictures and are not extracted.
  • For password-protected files, a picture stored in the file but not placed on any page is not found.

Frequently asked questions

Will the extracted pictures lose quality?

No. The pictures are copied out of the document exactly as they were stored, with the same pixels and the same format. Nothing is re-compressed.

Why does the tool say no pictures were found?

The document has no inserted picture files. Tables, text boxes and shapes made in Hancom Office are drawn from instructions, not stored as images. Save the page as PDF or view it in the HWP Viewer instead.

Why are some pictures BMP or EMF?

That is how they were inserted in the original document. Older Hancom templates often stored pictures as BMP or as Windows EMF drawings. The tool keeps the original format so nothing is lost.

Does it work with HWPX files?

Yes. Pictures in both .hwp and .hwpx documents are extracted the same way.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. The file is opened and the pictures are extracted entirely in your browser.
