How to use Merge HWP Files
- 1Drop two or more .hwp or .hwpx files into the box, or click Choose files. You can add more files later.
- 2Set the order by dragging the rows or using the up and down arrows. Sort by name and Reverse help with long lists.
- 3Leave Start each file on a new page on to keep each file's own paper size, margins, headers and footers. Turn it off to run the files on one after another.
- 4If a file is password-protected, type its password in the box that appears under it.
- 5Click Merge, then Download .hwpx. You can also send the merged document straight to HWP to PDF, or preview it in the HWP Viewer.
How the merge works
An HWPX file is a ZIP package of XML parts: one header with all the fonts, character shapes, paragraph shapes, borders, numbering and styles, and one or more section files with the text. This tool keeps each input's sections as separate sections of the new document, so every file starts on a new page with its own page setup.
Every reference into the header is renumbered so that file 2's "character shape 5" does not suddenly use file 1's character shape 5. Identical definitions are stored once, pictures are renamed so nothing collides, and the package manifest is rebuilt. Binary .hwp files are first converted to HWPX in your browser with rhwp, an open-source HWP engine compiled to WebAssembly.
Why the result is HWPX
The merged document is saved as .hwpx, Hancom's open XML format. Writing the older binary .hwp format in a browser is not reliable, so the tool does not pretend to. Hancom Office Hangul 2014 and later open HWPX directly. If someone needs a .hwp file, open the HWPX in Hangul and use Save As with the HWP type.
What to expect
- Kept: text, fonts and sizes, bold and colours, paragraph spacing, tables, pictures, headers, footers, footnotes, paper size, orientation and margins of every file.
- Page numbers continue through the merged document by default. Turn on Restart page numbers for each file if every part should start at page 1.
- Numbered lists start again in each file instead of continuing from the previous file.
- Run-on mode (new page turned off) puts all files in one flow; files after the first take the first file's paper size and margins.
- Files that came from .hwp go through an HWP to HWPX conversion first. Unusual objects such as some charts, OLE objects or form controls may not survive that step exactly.
Your files stay on your device
Nothing is uploaded. Reading, converting and merging all happen inside this browser tab, which makes the tool safe for contracts, applications and internal reports. Passwords for protected HWP files are only used in the browser.
Frequently asked questions
Can I merge HWP and HWPX files together?
Yes. You can mix .hwp and .hwpx files in any order. HWP files are converted to HWPX in the browser first, then everything is joined into one HWPX document.
Why can't I download the result as .hwp?
The binary HWP format cannot be written reliably in a browser, so the tool saves HWPX instead. Hancom Office Hangul 2014 and later open it, and you can save it as .hwp from there.
Does each file keep its own page size and margins?
Yes, as long as Start each file on a new page is on. Each file becomes its own section, so a landscape A4 page and a portrait B5 page can sit in the same document.
Do the files have to use the same fonts or styles?
No. Every file's fonts, character shapes, paragraph shapes and styles are carried over and renumbered so they cannot mix up. Styles with the same name but different settings get a number added, for example 바탕글 (2).
How many files can I merge?
Up to 50 at a time. Very large documents with many pictures need more memory, so on a phone it is better to merge a few files at a time.
Can I merge password-protected HWP files?
Yes, enter the password for each protected HWP 5.0 file and it is unlocked in your browser. Password-protected HWPX files need to be unlocked in Hancom Office first.
Can I get one PDF instead?
Yes. After merging, click Save as PDF to open the merged document in HWP to PDF, then download it as a single PDF.
